On the Road again…

I’m sitting in the lounge at Gatwick (LGW) waiting for my flight to Dubai (DXB) and on to Sydney (SYD). I am so looking forward to getting back to Australia with the sunshine, heat and laid-back atmosphere. Most of all I am looking forward to getting back to my love. This has been a whirlwind trip to London, I arrived a week last Saturday, it has been fun and interesting. It has, however, been tiring and a little bit wearing. Back to some normality, relaxation and companionship.

This is the first time I have done the trip as a short hop in this direction. I am so used to popping over to Australia on a business trip for a week then coming back to the cold. It is very strange doing it in the opposite direction. It almost feels like I am living in Australia. That is a frightening prospect as Australia is, I think the last place I would want to live permanently.

Still, London was great. I spent Saturday struggling to get to the hotel and Sunday recovering. Monday was spent chasing people up by phone and going to a site visit in the West End. That was the part of the trip I really enjoyed. catching up with old friends, looking at theatres and talking lighting design. More meetings on Tuesday and a clearer picture emerging of the work I was here to do. It’s very re-assuring to see the work done by someone who has come in because you weren’t available and realise he has bogged it. It helps to remind you that you are special and talented. In the evening I had a meal with one of my sons.

Wednesday was visit to a friend to discuss business and how they could make the project work well and on time. That was accompanied by a great curry lunch. Thursday was a day working and seeing my sons and a visit round the Saatchi gallery. Friday was a visit to the office and a site test in the West End followed by a drink with a friend. Saturday was working and going to Winchester, a pint at the Wyckham Arms followed by a take-away curry. Sunday was walking and birthday cake. Today was up to London, visit the store and travel to Gatwick.

The trip has been one of enlightenment and realisation. I have re-made some connections and clarified others. It has re-affirmed in my mind the absolute importance of proximity with important people. Thsi is not necessary all the time, just from time to time on a regular basis. You cannot take any thing for granted when it come to relationships. They are delicate flowers that need regular watering and a lot of love.

That, of course, ia why I am so keen to get back to Sydney. I want to get back to my love and shower her with love and attention, all of which she deserves in oodles. I am so grateful for what we have, it is precious and amazing. I wish this for all my friends and family.
